What’s the best way to get to Tuscany?


Most of our U.S. guests  will fly from New York → Rome (FCO), as there are no direct flights to Florence. 

From Sweden or other parts of Europe/Asia  - Fly into Rome or Florence.

Borgo Casabianca is located IN Asciano, just south of Siena - about 2.5 hours from Rome of 1.5 hours from Florence. 

Below are a few popular routes, once you landed in Rome, on how to structure your trip.

Arriving in Italy

Option 1 – Stay in Rome First


If you’d like to rest and explore before heading north, Rome makes a perfect first stop after your international flight.

  • Travel time to Borgo Casabianca (when you’re ready to leave): about 2½–3 hours by train + car.

  • Why it’s great: You can walk through the Colosseum, toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain, and wander Trastevere’s cobblestone streets before immersing yourself in Tuscany.

How to get there:

  • From Fiumicino Airport (FCO), take the Leonardo Express train (~32 min) or a pre-booked private transfer directly to your Rome hotel.

  • After enjoying a night or two in the city, you can board a high-speed train from Roma Termini toward Florence or Chiusi-Chianciano Terme (the closest station to Borgo Casabianca).

Option 2 – Spend Time in Florence First


Fly into Florence (via a European connection) or take the high-speed train from Rome to Florence’s Santa Maria Novella Station (≈ 1½ hours).

  • Why it’s great: Florence is the gateway to Tuscany — filled with Renaissance art, rooftop views, and incredible food.

  • How to continue: From Florence’s Santa Maria Novella Station, then rent a car or book a private driver to Borgo Casabianca (≈ 1 hr 45 min drive).

  • Tip: A perfect city for adjusting to jet lag — walkable, charming, and easy to navigate.

Option 3 – Go Straight to Siena


Ideal for guests eager to settle into the Tuscan countryside right away.

  • How to get there: Take a high-speed train to Florence, then connect to Siena by regional train (≈ 1½ hours) or private driver (≈ 1 hr 15 min).

  • Why it’s great: Siena is just ≈ 35 minutes from Borgo Casabianca by rental car or private driver and it offers an authentic hill-town atmosphere full of Tuscan character and is a perfect home-base before the wedding.  before the wedding weekend.  

  • Tip: Enjoy an aperitivo in Piazza del Campo and visit the Duomo before continuing to the Borgo.

Getting from the Airport to the Train Station

If you’re arriving at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and continuing by train, you’ll first need to reach Roma Termini, the city’s main station.

    • Departs directly from the airport — follow signs for Treni / Trains

    • Non-stop to Roma Termini (~32 min)

    • Runs every 15–30 minutes

    • Tickets: €14 per person via Trenitalia machines or counter

    • Door-to-door service from arrivals to Roma Termini or your hotel

    • Must be booked in advance (you can’t hail inside the terminal)

    • Typical rate €45–70 depending on vehicle

    • Driver meets you in arrivals with a name sign

    • Trusted providers:Transfeero, Blacklane, Sixt Ride(different price ranges). These are ideal for long distance travel or airport pickups and drop-offs.

    • Official white taxis just outside the terminal – flat €50 fare to central Rome

    • In Siena, Florence, and other larger towns, locals use apps like Free Now or It Taxi to book official taxis. However, these services DO NOT reach Asciano or the countryside surrounding Borgo Casabianca. 

    •  UBER & LYFT are not widely available outside major cities such as Rome, Milan or Florence. Even where they exist, they are UBER Black / Lux (licensed chauffeurs)

Getting to / from  Borgo Casabianca

Once you’ve arrived in Florence or Siena, there are two easy ways to reach Borgo Casabianca in Asciano — the final stretch of your Tuscan adventure!

  • The most flexible option and the best way to explore Tuscany at your own pace.

    • From Florence: ≈ 1 hr 45 min drive

    • From Siena: ≈ 35 min drive

    • From Rome:  ≈ 2½–3 hours

    • Roads are well maintained and filled with rolling hills, vineyards, and olive groves.

    • Car rentals available at Florence Airport, Santa Maria Novella Train Station, and Siena city center.

    • GPS Tip: Enter “Borgo Casabianca, Asciano (SI)” to avoid navigation confusion.

  • If you’d rather relax and let someone else do the driving, hire a private driver, known in Italy as an NCC (Noleggio Con Conducente – literally “car with driver”).

Getting Around - Ride Share Apps

Ride-sharing apps like UBER and LYFT are not widely available outside major cities such as Rome, Milan, or Florence. Even where they exist, they typically connect to black car services rather than local drivers.  

In Siena, Florence, and other larger towns, locals use apps like Free Now or It Taxi to book official taxis. However, these services DO NOT reach Asciano or the countryside surrounding Borgo Casabianca.

Accommodation

Your 3-night-stay at Borgo Casabianca is fully covered as part of the wedding weekend (Friday thru Monday morning). Each room and suite is equipped with air conditioning, & Wi-Fi.  If you would like to stay longer at Borgo Casabianca please book with them directly. 

We recommend that you arrive in Italy a couple of days earlier than Friday July 24th to let yourself get acclimated to the time change and to enjoy exploring a country we love so much.
